Vocabulary Fall List #5

Allude- indirect reference; He often alluded to his life in his writings
Clairvoyant- able to perceive beyond senses
Conclusive- final or desicive; The investigation didn't need to go any further after some conclusive evidence.
Disreputable- having a bad reputation
Endemic- exclusively belonging to one particular place
Exemplary- worthy of imitation, commendable. There was nothing negative to say about the student because of her exemplary behavior
Fathom- to understand. She couldn't fathom one bit of what we were saying.
Guile- trickiness
Integrity- integrate thought word and action; Not doing what you say shows a lack of integrity.
Itinerary- trip schedule; I've already seen our itinerary for Europe.
Miscontrue- misrepresent; What she said was misconstrued so they didn't do what she had hoped.
Obnoxious- annoying; Some people find children obnoxious and choose not to have them.
Placate- to pacify or satisfy; The manager was able to placate the old woman with a discount after she'd been treated unfairly.
Placid- calm or peaceful; Sounds of the placid sea are soothing.
Plagiarism- taking someone else's work and representing it as your own; Plagiarism is frowned upon by schools.
Potent- powerful; There was a potent smell of trash coming from the alley.
Pretext- excuse or reason for doing something.
Protrude- to stick out; His stomach was protruding after Thanksgiving dinner.
Stark- obvious or clear; After use of drugs for several years, death was a stark possibility.
Superficial- shallow or at surface.
